These foods work like medicine
While you may not be ready to forgo all medications, you should at least try to include some medicinal foods into your regular diet and see what happens. If you’re curious, here are a few of the top medicinal foods doctors are currently recommending:
- Ginger. This incredibly potent root has the ability to improve circulation, detox the body, and behave as an antibiotic. However, it’s arthritis sufferers that get the most use out of ginger. Studies have shown that ginger can lower inflammation and reduce joint-related pain significantly more than any other food. Many women also swear that a cup of ginger tea helps alleviate pain related to menstrual cramps and period discomfort.
- Garlic. You should try to make fresh garlic a staple in your kitchen. Many doctors use it to treat bacteria-related diseases, high blood pressure, and even high cholesterol. It contains a high concentration of sulfur and helps the body eliminate toxins more effectively. Ideally, you should try to eat fresh garlic, but if you can’t handle that, try adding it at the end of the cooking process.
- Sesame oil. Looking for a simple way to lower blood pressure? Try replacing your standard cooking oil with sesame oil. The International Journal of Clinical Chemistry suggests that just 60 days is enough to lower the average person’s blood pressure by 30-plus points.
- Kale. As one of the more popular superfoods at the moment, kale generates a lot of discussion. Most of it is deserved, though. This leafy green vegetable is filled with phytonutrients that protect against cancer and reduce inflammation. Kale is also high in calcium, which makes it an excellent food for seniors to add to their diets.
- Coconut oil. One of the tastiest medicinal foods is coconut oil. It’s filled with healthy fatty acids and proven to improve heart health and boost the immune system. It’s also one of the easiest foods to eat. You can put it on cereal, add it to a cup of tea, or substitute it for any oil you already use during cooking.
