Orion College Military BenefitsAt Orion College we appreciate your service to our country and are dedicated to helping you further your education and meet your career goals. The U.S. Government, provides many financial aid options for those who are eligible.

Orion College is approved for the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program. If you are a veteran or active duty service member and are interested in determining your benefit eligibility, please follow the steps below to get started.

How to Get Started

STEP #1 – Determine which chapter you may use to claim entitlements

Montgomery GI Bill – Chapter 30
Available to those who entered Active Duty after June 30, 1985, completed at least two years continuous active service, contributed $1,200 to the program, received a high school diploma or GED, and received an honorable discharge. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 30 eligibility requirements.

Vocational Rehabilitation – Chapter 31
Available to veterans who have been declared disabled by the Department of Veterans Affairs due to service-related injury. You can get additional information about Vocational Rehabilitation entitlements by visiting va.gov, ed.gov or vetsuccess.gov. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 30 eligibility requirements.

Post 9/11 GI Bill – Chapter 33
Those who served a minimum of 90 combined days on active duty after September 10, 2001, and received an honorable discharge are eligible. This benefit covers active duty served as a member of the Armed Forces or because of a call or order to active duty from a reserve component (National Guard and Reserve) under certain sections of Title 10. The amount of support that individuals may qualify for depends on where they live and what type of degree they are pursuing. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 33 eligibility requirements.

Dependents Educational Assistance – Chapter 35
Authorizes educational benefits to dependents and survivors of certain veterans who have serious disabilities as the result of their service (100% disabled), or who have died of a service-connected cause, were a prisoner of war or missing in action. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 35 eligibility requirements.

Reserve GI Bill – Chapter 1606
The Reserve GI Bill is available to any person who enlists, re-enlists or extends an enlistment in the Selective Reserve for not less than six years, in addition to any other period of obligation after June 30, 1985; earned a high school diploma or GED; completed the IADT; fulfilled 180 days of service in the selective reserve; and is satisfactorily participating in required training in the Selective Reserve. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 1606 eligibility requirements.

Activated Reservists after September 11th, 2011 (REAP) – Chapter 1607
Available to certain reservists who were activated after September 11, 2001, may either be eligible for education benefits or eligible for increased benefits. Click Here to view a PDF sample of the Chapter 1607 eligibility requirements.

 STEP #2 – Complete the VONAPP 

In order to receive benefits, you must first complete the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Veterans On-Line Application (VONAPP). Click Here to access the application, and follow the steps to apply. While completing your VONAPP, be sure to save or print a copy of the completed application before submitting to the Department of Veteran Affairs.

STEP #3 – Submit VONAPP, DD214, and Certificate of Eligibility 

Once you have received your Certificate of Eligibility, submit it along with a copy of the completed VONAPP, and a copy of your DD214 Member’s Copy 4 (if you have been discharged) to Orion College’s Financial Aid Department. This paperwork can be submitted via fax, email, or postal mail, to the addresses below:

Vonn App – Memorandum of Understanding
