Transfer of Credit to Orion College
Students who previously attended a school, college, or university, accredited by an agency recognized by the United States Department Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation may be granted transfer credit, at the sole discretion of Orion College. The courses taken must be determined by the College to be sufficiently equivalent to courses offered at the College. In addition, the College must determine that those courses are applicable to the student’s program of study at OC. Only courses in which the student earned a grade of C or above will be considered for transfer. Students seeking to transfer credits are responsible for having official transcripts forwarded to the Institute for review. All requests for transfer credits must be received by the College prior to the student’s start date. An official transcript and college catalog must be forwarded directly to the Dean of Academics, who will evaluate academic proficiency and grant the appropriate credit. Grades are not recorded for credits earned at other institutions, nor are these credits included in the student’s grade point average. Transfer students are required to earn a minimum of 60% of the total program credits at Orion College. Technical skill courses, including externship credits are not transferable to the Institution. Orion College does not give credit for non-credit courses or remedial courses. Orion College does not grant advanced placement or give credit for experiential learning. A student who receives transfer credits will have the program tuition charge prorated based upon the remaining number of credits the student must earn in order to graduate. The Bursar’s Office will make the appropriate tuition adjustment.
Orion College’s CLEP Policy
Orion College welcomes students who have had a variety of learning experiences. Many students come to our college with a background in a particular field of study. We recognize their prior learning by accepting a range of College-Level Examination Program® (CLEP®) exams. These exams measure mastery of college-level course content.
Students who achieve the required credit-granting scores on these exams can earn the credits and course exemptions. These credits will be listed as transfer credits on your Orion College transcript. Our college will grant a maximum total of 14 credits for successful performance on CLEP examinations. CLEP scores that are older than ten years will not be accepted. For more information regarding our CLEP Policy please see our Catalog.
Transfer of Credit to Other Schools
Orion College does not imply or guarantee that credits completed at the Institute will be accepted by or transferable to any other school, college, university, or institution. It should not be assumed that any credits for any courses described in this catalog can be transferred to another institution. Credits in core or clinical classes completed at OC are unlikely to transfer. Each institution has its own policies governing the acceptance of credit from other institutions. Students seeking to transfer credits earned at OC should contact the educational institution to which they seek admission to inquire about their policies on credit transfer.
